When does The Malkai open?

The Malkai is expected to open in Autumn/Winter 2026. Reservations will open in Summer 2026.

Where is The Malkai located?

The Malkai journey includes three distinct locations in Oman: Barkaa (a date farm plantation, near Muscat), Hajar (in the Al Hajar mountains) and Sharqiyah (in the Sharqiya Sands desert).

How do I get to The Malkai?

Fly into Muscat International Airport, which has direct connections from the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Barkaa, the first stop on the journey, is a 30-minute drive from the airport. Your private Guide will greet you at the aircraft door and guide you through arrivals.

Who will handle my travel arrangements, including flights and visas?

Guests are responsible for booking their own flights into Oman. However, once you arrive, The Malkai team takes care of everything — from airport meet-and-greet to seamless transfers and in-journey logistics. Our reservations team will advise you on visa requirements based on your nationality and provide support with the application process where needed.

Are all activities included in the price?

A wide range of cultural, wellness, and nature-based experiences are included in your journey, each tailored by your dedicated Murshid. Any optional experiences or excursions that carry an additional cost will be clearly outlined in advance, so you can make informed choices before booking.

What is included in The Malkai journey package?

The 7-night journey includes a personal airport welcome, a dedicated Murshid guide, private Land Rover Defender transportation, all meals and selected beverages, laundry service, curated cultural excursions and activities, and luxury Pavilion accommodation.

Are different length itineraries available?

Our 7-night journey has been carefully designed to capture the full spirit of The Malkai pilgrimage through Oman—unfolding at a pace that honours the richness of each landscape: coast, mountains, and desert. For guests with specific timings or interests, our team will be happy to discuss how best to shape your experience.

What types of accommodation are available?

Each location offers 15 one-bedroom Pavilions (85 sqm and and one three-bedroom Pavilion with private pool, ideal for families or groups. All Pavilions feature air conditioning, outdoor terraces, curated mini-bars, and luxury bedding.

What is the starting price per night?

Rates start from $2,200 per person per night. Seasonal rates may apply.

What’s not included in the nightly rate?

The following are not included in the nightly rate and are charged separately: spa treatments, à la carte dining options, premium wines, spirits and cigars, and air transfers between sites.

Is The Malkai suitable for families?

Yes, the Three-Bedroom Pavilion is perfect for families or groups. Activities can also be tailored for guests of different ages.

What wellness facilities are available?

Each site features open-air yoga and meditation pavilions, a dedicated Spa Pavilion at Barkaa and in-room treatments at Hajar and Sharqiyah, gym facilities (indoor at Barkaa, outdoor at Hajar and Sharqiyah), spa treatments using organic, locally sourced products, as well as pools, hiking trails, and wellness classes.

Is The Malkai eco-friendly?

Yes. Sustainability is at the heart of The Malkai’s philosophy. Each site is powered by solar energy, with Barkaa supplied with fresh water via traditional Falaj irrigation systems — a centuries-old, sustainable method unique to Oman. Locally sourced materials such as Omani marble, honed limestone, and teak are used throughout the Pavilions, and great care is taken to preserve the natural landscape and support surrounding communities. The Malkai is proudly committed to 'Omanization', prioritising the hiring and training of local nationals to help preserve and celebrate the country’s cultural heritage. In addition, a portion of proceeds from every guest booking supports the conservation of the critically endangered Arabian leopard — a species native to Oman and the inspiration behind The Malkai’s logo.

What should I pack?

Light, breathable layers and respectful clothing for cultural sites. A full packing guide is available in your pre-arrival materials.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi is available at each property and within in your Land Rover Defender.

Is there a dress code?

There is no formal dress code, but modest attire is encouraged in public areas and required when visiting religious or cultural sites.

Are pets allowed?

At this time, pets are not permitted at The Malkai.

What is the best time of year to visit Oman?

Generally, the most pleasant weather in Oman is between October and April, when temperatures are cooler and ideal for outdoor activities.
